    M1 Garand Correct Rifle Verification

I am pursuing purchasing a CMPicon Correct Grade M1icon Garand from a private seller.

As part of the my due diligence, I want to confirm that the rifle is indeed correct before I purchase it. The seller has a CMP Correct grade certificate from when he purchased it. I called the CMP armory to get a list of items I should look for to confirm the rifle is unaltered and correct.

The gun met most of these criteria. It has the properly marked stock, proper drawing numbers on the bolt, trigger housing, hammer, safety, and op rod. No electronic pencil markings were found anywhere.

However, there were two hang ups.

    1. The sights were marked “DRC” on the windage and “IHC” on the elevation, instead of “SA.”

    2. Most importantly, the barrel drawing number started with “F” instead the “D” but was otherwise correct.

The serial number and barrel both date to late 1954.

    Thank you in advance.

FWIW, both DRC and IHC/DRC sight knobs were very common on late production Springfield rifles. Many correct (as originally produced) rifles have had parts replaced because some folks just didn't know what parts were actually "correct" and what weren't. Needless to say, those rifles are now incorrect, but the owners are happy.

You may wish to include MUCH more information about the rifle to go along with your question(s) in the future, as it is difficult--if not totally impossible--to give you accurate answers if you only provide a photo of the barrel data.

BTW- $1600 does not seem like too high a price as long as the metal finish AND the wood are nice. It's all about condition.
