Differences in K98, Brazillian, and M96

So I am in the middle of restoring a butchered 7mm Brazillian mauser, but honestly I know very little about them. I am just wondering what the specific differences are in the 7mm's to the M96's and K98icon's.

So first off: Sight ladder, is the 7mm the same as the K98? From what I have seen in pictures it doesn't look like the M96 ladder. If it is the same as the K98 then that will make finding parts a little easier.

Second: Hand guard, is it the same as the K98?

Bands and Nosecap: Again are they the same as the K98? They look the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated to keep the project going.

Bumping this because I am still unsure. Fairly certain the Brazillian is basically a K98icon.

You need more specifics, there was several Brazilianicon M98 variants. Secondly, parts may or may not be interchangeable on some parts, but not others. If no one else has answered by time I get home, I will do a more detailed answer on the differences.

I would think the sight ladder would be different. The 7mm ballistics are different than the 8mm so the calibrations on the ladder would need to be different. Might look the same and might fit but zeroing would be harder.

I'm not an expert myself, but I have a matching Brazilianicon 1908 rifle. I have posted some pictures, but I just checked and saw that the details you're looking for are not clearly reproduced.
I hope I'll have a few minutes this evening, before leaving for business, in order to take the needed pictures and post them.

So I'll start with the basics. There is several different main Mauser action types. The M71, M71/84, M89 (also seen in the Turkishicon M90 and Argentine M1891s), M93, M96, and finally the M98 (possibly skipped some other developmental actions but I am not a Mauser expert and its somewhat pointless for this conversation).

Brazil adopted 2 of the main action types, the M93 action (with slight bolt differences), and the M98 action. Odds are the one you have is based off of the M98 action. The M98 action also is the action with the most variations. Different length receivers, a huge variety of calibers, sights, barrel lengths, stocks, barrel bands, etc. Given that it is Brazilianicon there is two likely rifles that it started as, either the M1908 or the M1935 (there are others, but these would be the most common).

Odds are you can even buy all the parts you need which were actual Brazilian Mauser parts off of somewhere like Numrich as they are so plentiful. Things to note for restoration, you need to know if your rifle has been messed with beyond the basics. If the barrel is cut back you might as well just give up as it will likely cost you more than buying a standard configuration Brazilian Mauser. Without knowing the model which you have, and what parts are missing we can't help much. Pictures in these cases mean a thousand words.

Oh wow a few hits now. I'll start from the top.

Eaglelord, its a 1908 DWM Brazillian with the longer barrel, from what I have seen there are two different length barrels for the same action.

Aragorn, that would make sense, but maybe the ladder is manufactured them same but with a different ramp? Like in the Enfields after changing powders.

    Thanks Ovidio.

Eaglelord, it appears I underestimated how many different actions there were. I know the barrel and reciever have not been tampered with (Apart from tapped holes through the top for scope mounts). Considering that the action and barrel are alright and still match each other is why I decided it was worth restoring in the first place. I can get pictures of the action and barrel, but the stock is gone.

Thanks a heap so far guys. Maybe a newb question, but I guess someone has to answer it.

Will be back tomorrow night, then I’ll post a K98icon beside a Brazilianicon 1908, with long barrel.

Nijal, Yes - all good info by above members. I will just add---go to the Springfield Sporters website. They list many bands and sights for the various Mauser models. There are pictures of each part and a description including the variations. Salt Flat
