    Re-worked K-98

    I brought this the other day it was tatty as cleaned it up did some research as it intrigued me.
    What I think this is could be a Yugoicon rework M1884K98 it still has the flash guard.
    As a Germanicon 98 it is a '44 Carl Eichorn (1934-1944-5!) the scabbard is '42 CVL which is Weyersburg & Kirschbaum Co.
    It bears the No.6116 K (which I think is pretty cool) it could be a German marking as the Yugo's usually did it on the cross piece & frog stud however the examples I have seen the blade does not have such a rough finish.
    So to get an answer were the Yugo's that rough in their finishing or has bubba drunk a full 24 box of Jack Daniels cans and got to work with a grinder. TIA (Last 2 pics before/After)

    I don't think I've ever seen one with a finish like that

    I thought this M5 that was sent to me with a stock was bad, I have no idea what crap is on this blade and guard. Looks like it was used as a digging tool. I'm going to clean it up and I'll more than likely get $3.00 on the ewwBay for it.

    You may have to pay someone to take that one Mr Baker as it sure looks like it was used as a garden implement for extended periods......

    I don't know; Might paint it red with black lines on just one side and sell it for $2000.00

    From another forum where I had it posted ~ I am pretty happy I was incorrect about the Re-work bit;

    "I don't see anything to suggest this is a Yugoslaviaicon "re-work". This is a 1944 late war made bayonet and it displays the typical production short cuts that were happening by then. 1944 Eickhorn bayonets had wood grips as standard that year and that looks like the original one. The blade finishing by all companies was inferior after 1942 when the polishing phase was dropped, and they went straight to bluing. By 1944 production, the blades are rough with grinding lines visible, even with the great company of Eichhorn. This is actually quite a rough one but I believe it hasn't been touched post war. Certainly no sign of re-bluing or replaced wood grips, also a Yugo bayonet would also have a number on the crossguard and the frog foot. I might add that the examples of Yugo reworked bayonets vary widely as they are not all drawn from one year of manufacture. But this is a genuine WW2 combat k98, with replacement scabbard, been there done that."

    Nice looking 84/98 bayonet. Dunno why but I always love the rough looking finish of the 1944 dated bayonets, always seem to have loads of character to them. I've a '44 dated Eickhorn and the blade is similarly rough.
