    Baltimore Antique Arms Show

Hard to believe it's been a year since I was at this last. Almost didn't make it to this years but a friend left my wife know about it this morning and when the wife WANTS to go to a gun show, you go to the gun show.

Like walking though a museum you can touch things at.

My holy grail of rifles was there with it's bayonet and the owner allowed me to take photos of it. I will post them when I get a chance.

I'll give you a couple of hints: It was made in the United Statesicon for a Commonwealth nation. I don't think I ever told anyone it was my holy grail so don't bother checking previous posts. It's price tag was approximately $12,000. I give any more hints you'll guess too easy.

In any case. I can't really afford much of what was there. I was hoping for a Snider or an Italianicon Vetterli in original caliber. Saw a few but out of my price range. Understandable for the Snider but not the Vetterli. Guy wanted 3 times what I see them going for on Gunbroker. I settled for a box of Dutch Beaumont ammo and a book on the Italian Vetterli Rifle. I decided I have no interest in collecting muskets seriously because I can't tell any of them apart.

Show goes on again tomorrow, if' you're within a few hours drive of Timonium Maryland, well worth the trip.

The last time I was at a "Baltimore" gun show, it was in Baltimore, in the big grey stone armory. But they solved the crime problem in Baltimore by throwing out the gun shows. It worked in New Jersey too.. no gun shows here...

It is neither a Pratt and Whitney Lee Enfield or a Remington Lee.

The company that made it made other rifles of other types for Commonwealth nations. It has an action which I believe is rare for military arms but rather common among civilian arms.

Timonium is about 20 minutes or so north of Baltimore. They hold it at the state fairgrounds.

No bites in 24 hours. I'll let this go until this evening and then identify the rifle.

    Some more hints:

The company that produced it also contracted with GB to make rifles for them, but not this one.

This particular rifle sold very few military but was a staple in the civilian market for over 75 years.

sounds like a Winchester 1895, which is on my hope-to-see-one day list, let alone buy.

Nope, not an 1895 and not a Winchester but heading in the right direction.

The company remains in business to this day although production of this type of rifle ended roughly 30 years ago.

The company recently changed it's logo, probably due to outside pressure.

And for the last hint and this is one that I consider more difficult than the rest but since we have some crazy good bayonet guys in here, a photo hint:

The "outside pressure" gave it away for me.
    Savage Model 1899 "Musket" version.
Super advanced design for its time and a great choice for your grail gun!
