    Unknown Sword

A friend of mine took pictures of this sword from his late uncle's estate. His uncle served in WWII (that much is known), but not his whereabouts and when. I know absolutely nothing about swords. From the pics posted, can anyone make out what it might be (or represents) and whether it is real or a replica. Can request more pics.

    Sword pictures here!

Looks like a Germanicon dress sword. Can't really see the details even of the martial markings. An eagle or what is on the guard?

    Perhaps....

I would say it is a Japaneseicon dress sword as this one from the net 1940 example has similar features especially the chrysanthemums on the handle and hand guard the one you have could be WWI or WWII but I would go with a latter date 30-40's

I have seen lots of these in the Oman but who knows who made them. Very Britishicon looking without the Gold, so highly probably a British Company IMHO
Could be a Persian derivative from the Shamshir called the Turkishicon Kilij!

Looking at pics online I have to agree with Cinders now. I need to see the emblem on the grip spine though...not the initials...

Japaneseicon. Those flowers are cherry blossoms. The swords were not imperial issue (chrysanthemum). Why cheery blossoms on just about all swords up until WWII I will have to find out. ‹Œ“ú–{’鍑—¤ŠCŒR ŒR“ Military Swords of Imperial Japan (Gunt)

Agree with the latter image being probably a Cherry blossom but the original one looks like a Rose...........probably an English Rose and a steel making manufacturer from the Yorkshire area of Englandicon to boot. They made swords for numerous countries including Turkeyicon and most of the Arab States.

Well I haven't a clue about swords in general and Japaneseicon swords in particular.
So I would like an answer to the following question: IF a Japanese sword WHY initials TK in Western (Roman) script?
