A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I kinda like it! I’d like to do that on a already-cutdown 1903 or 1917 someday. Don’t think I’d go spending that kind of money to do it though!

Might be fun if I had a receiver lying around...$139 would be a cheap barrel of any kind around here.

    Had that thought too.
How well do 1903 barrels index from rifle to rifle? Not well, I'd imagine.
The Kragicon is supposedly known for indexing well and my small experience agrees but those were only made by one firm for a handful of years.
Hard to believe the 1903 managed the same with, what, 4 firms and as many decades.

Don't go into it with the idea of being lucky, get ready to make it happen and you'll do fine. If the barrel was military production it shouldn't be bad.
