Take your time and verify
Just a quick thought about safety and fitting. I'm working a project resurrecting some parts for a type 99 rifle. The rifle is a sporter project and needed the bolt turned down as much.
I was reading through some old threads and came across one about bolt fitting/forging and making sure the lugs fully contact the opposite receiver surfaces.
In my haste too much material was added to the bolt root and even after being fully dressed there was sufficient material at the rear of the new handle that did not permit full contact.
I was able to verify and correct the condition easy enough during the process but may not have considered the condition well enough in advance to avoid a potential problem.
The respondent to the thread I read was written by a man named Calif-Steve who offered sound advice to another with a similar but slightly different problem for someone who was searching for a early Mauser bolt.
Just want to say thanks to all for all the excellent advice and experience that gets shared on the site. I attached a picture of the M03 rear sight I'm using to replace the missing original part and some others. I'm using a Mauser front band that agrees with the height of the 7.7 post which was missing from my donor barrel after a sleeve is made to allow soldering.
