Picking up a New Carbine Tomorrow

My local FFL left me a phone message that my carbine had come in.
Way to busy to get there today.
My Wife and I had to admit my 80 year old Mother in to the hospital Monday evening.
It's a sad story, but her gradual decline with Dementia very quickly advanced to a critical point. So we find ourselves in a scramble dealing with Dr's, Lawyers, Bankers among others, and searching for the 'proper' Adult Care Facility...
We weren't ready, things advanced so much faster than any of us were prepared for.
I'm purposely added this off topic advice for any of you that find yourselves moving towards a similar situation with a loved one. Get things in order now as best you can. Because these things can take a very fast turn.

Standard Products M1 Carbine:
I came across a carbine that was on GB and asked a few questions about it. Seller couldn't have been more helpful but just wasn't familiar with carbines. Originally I asked my questions to help the seller out as I could see his lack of the needed photos we look for. He had it listed as a Underwood, but when looking at receiver details I could see it wasn't a UEF. I had a feeling it was a STAN PRO and sent him the STAN PRO serial # block, then he could see it wasn't a UEF. He was using the UEF barrel marking as the maker in his listing. At this time he added to his description that he had been contacted and informed it was indeed a Standard Products carbine, since his listing was still active. But it was still listed in with the Underwood carbines, because of the title. His description lacked any part details so I walked him thru how to tear down and where to look for markings. He followed through and would pass the new info to me via emails. By this time his auction had ended with no bids and he decided not to relist until he knew more about it. Very patient kinda guy who followed my tips closely. I had planned to write up his 'new auction' parts/types description for him, so he'd have a better shot at getting a bid or two. After Nearly 20 emails back and forth, with me checking my list with the part's letter and number markings.... I realized I had better at least make an offer. He accepted and I'll pick it up in the morning.
And no I didn't take advantage of him...... remember I started out to help him. In fact now that I think about it I could have bought it cheaper by just going through the auction. But I believe I'll be happy with it. And I know I've made a new friend. Good people are just that.. Good people, and what goes around comes around.
The bonus is I'm now his Go To Guy with anything M1 Carbine, carbine related and any WWII era gear.

Pictures as soon as possible, but first I might list my questions to him and the replies he sent with the part letter and number markings. I just kept checking the boxes on my note pad as he replied, then match that up to the GREAT write up by BrianQ in CCNL 366-

After getting the serial number and looking in to the CCNL 366, I can honestly say I got more and more excited as I checked those boxes....

You have my sympathies Charlie I have been through that most trying of times as luck would have it fate pretty much decimated my family I have a brother I never knew mum & dads first born died 36 hours after birth hole in his heart, dad died a horrible death from pancreatic cancer, my brother at 43 heart attack, mum a brain aneurysm she got by for 10 more years but she then had complication with my wife & the family at her bedside for 3 days I held her hand as she passed finally my 2nd eldest sister had a brain aneurysm and died in front of my wife we sat by her bed for 72 hours she was brain dead so it was decided to switch off & donate her organs. Now there is just me & my oldest sister who is not travelling too well.

The wheel of time marches on for all of us and so many people get caught unawares getting things sorted legally and so on for it is so very sad how in some cases things go to people that shouldn't because they take them out of school but whats the point I would rather have my family back than worry so much on materialistic stuff. God bless you Charlie I hope things work as they should.

Of course we need pics of the new carbine and a range report goes without saying

Hope your Mom is doing better. I had to take care of my mother until she passed away at 89. It is a part of life that no one escapes. It is humbling experience to sit and watch someone die, but afterward you feel like you did something to help. My wife's father is 99 and still lives alone. I guess it is just the hand you were dealt. Good luck Charlie.

I appreciate the well wishes. Sorta wish I hadn't brought it up here but at the same time if it helps one person get legal matters in order before their loved one is incapable of sharing their thoughts and wishes for the end, maybe it will save someone the pressure. She just turned 80 a couple weeks ago but took a huge mental down turn in a very short time.

I picked up the Standard Pro, it's a beauty to me. I haven't had time and probably wont for a while to document it.
I did pull the barreled receiver to wipe it down with some oil...... she was dry as a bone. Didn't pull the TH apart yet either.
All Metal finish is original WWII, be it park, blue or in the white.
This carbine left the service in early 1946.

Most of these markings are from my email/check list when dealing with the seller.
The seller got it from his WWII Vet neighbor. I'll add to the WWII veterans story later. He had quite the history and during his time while in public service.

Something special about the rear sight (s) ..... I'll add this info later. Call it a tease, but it's interesting. Came with a stock pouch and 3 mags......... and something tied to the front sight.
