I just sold one this morning that I bought on Saturday out of the wrap but still greased and only ever fired at the factory. The new owner wants to shoot it and will clean and preserve it properly so it was perfect for him.

I saw a mummy wrapped at The Orange Coast auction house just last week. They are in Anaheim, CA and have over 800 items in the up coming auction.

Some years back I picked up a Lithgowicon that was wrapped in brown paper and plastic. I sold it for some very decent money, but I regret that. Wish I had opened it and kept it.

I have a ‘55 Faz with matching bayonet that I purchased in an already cleaned and fired state. Which is why I got a good deal on it, about fifteen years ago.

I’m glad I got the deal, because even though it was in essentially new condition, it shoots very large groups.

I suspect a flaw in the bore near the muzzle where Century gorilla’d their import mark. It’s still on my list to have this rifle counter-bored to try to bring it back.

    Check those bores carefully boys.

I would suspect that it's not the barrel that is at faulty Hey Hey (post 14) it'll be the fore-end that is incorrectly bearing at the muzzle

I agree with Peter, don't alter the bore. It takes far more than that to damage or crush a barrel.

I ended up getting a mint and unfired ‘Irish Contract’ Mk2 off of gunbroker. Paid a good amount but significantly less than the $1500 I was looking at for one still in the wrap. It actually just came into my FFL today so hopefully I’ll be able to pick it up tonight.

Like I said earlier in the thread, it delays a project to get a really poor shooting MkI* fixed up, but I’ve wantes one for awhile so I jumped when I could. It also allowed me enough left over to pick up a Swissicon Schmidt-Ruben Model 1911 so that’s a plus.

Now back to saving up to repair that MkI*.

There is a visible defect in the bore just inside the muzzle, right under the import mark, but I will look at the stock with a more critical eye. It seems to fit perfectly. I appreciate your advice.
