Those Dark Stains On Wood That Won't Go Away

I've received some Private Messages and Emails in the last month or so from Carbine owners who had great results using the methods a few of us had linked to the CMPicon post below.

To save time I'll post my link to a cleaner for removing black marks from 'Oiled Finishes'

Here is a link to the original post and threads:

    My advice if interested,
For those Rusty brown/black stains that appear almost like ink, especially those found near the buttplates... etc, Do not underestimate Bars Keepers Friend.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. I use the stuff on my skiff with every wash-up for stubborn spots and tiny rust marks (and since I'm a full time guide in the Everglades, scrubbing my skiff is something I do too often..). Can't recommend it enough for it's ability to clean without being abrasive.

The secret ingredient in Bar Keeper's Friend is Oxalic acid. If you can find it (it used to be available in paint departments of hardware stores) it is cheap. Dissolve in water, heat and apply to the stain/rust.
