Army Heritage Days at the Army War College in Carlisle PA this weekend

Supposed to be a pretty big event but I'm afraid it is going to be flooded out. They have already changed their schedule to nothing outside happening until noon both days. With the Vietnam anniversary, they were going to do a lot of specials on that, plus they have a bunch of tanks scheduled to be there this weekend. Not sure on types but also afraid that will be cancelled as well. Going to be a mud pit, which would be cool for watching the tanks but their owners may not like it much and the grounds will be pretty much destroyed. We are going on Saturday and hopefully meeting up with my wife's uncle who served in Vietnam and has never talked about it with anyone. Not sure it this will break the ice with him or not but see it as a possibility. He has talked to me about very minor things a few times so hoping this allows him to open up. He's really getting up there in years and his health is in decline.

This evenings weather forecast for that area shows the rain to be finished by mid-morning on Saturday, so hopefully you'll have a good (and dry) weekend. I'm watching it closely because on Saturday morning I'll be in Harrisburg for a service at their WW2 Submarine Veterans Memorial.

Rain totals for the area have dropped from 3 inches to 1 inch which is an improvement but this morning it seems the heavy rain has been pushed back from today into tonight and tomorrow AM with showers continuing all day. We are preparing for wet weather.

Yep - that's what I'm seeing too. I'm expecting to be wet tomorrow AM. I hope you have a successful weekend regarding your wife's uncle.

I am curious as to how he will react. Some in the family have hoped he would talk about it for years. He seems well adjusted, etc and not holding issues back but who knows. I'm hoping it goes well for his sake at least. It it were not for him going, he won't go if we don't, I'd probably sit this one out because of the weather. But the idiots said it was going to rain all day today and the suns been out for a bit, the grounds dry and it only sprinkled a tiny bit this morning. Hopefully they are just as wrong about tomorrow.

The uncle couldn't make it. He isn't feeling well and with the rain and all they decided not to make the attempt today. As for the event, not the best which I figured because of the rain. The rain actually stopped around noon which is when they changed their schedule for the outdoor activities but the damage was done. A lot of the reenactors didn't show. Tanks, there was one. Add a tank destroyer and there were two. Plus two tracked transport vehicles a half track and a 6 wheeled armored car. On the plus side, it was muddy as anything and they made a real mess of things. On the negative side. I thought I was video taping the half track and I wasn't. It bogged down in the pond and stalled out and I missed it. They towed it out with the tank destroyer. I did get a video of it later running in the mud so I have that at least. I will be uploading photos and videos to my page and will post the link when they are up and ready to go. This is usually a really nice event and it wasn't bad but the weather really hurt it this year.

I don't know if these are popular anywhere else but there is a paper model group that always comes to this event. All the models seen in the photos are made of paper. The ships are pretty awesome.

They have a small museum here which is where the inside photos came from. Outside, if it's sitting on concrete, it's a static display that is there year round. The place is free and you can see it from Interstate 81 so hard to miss.
