FOUND ONE! 1903 Springfield Handguard - Finely

I've been looking for one for a long time. They sell for ridiculous prices in that auction site. I landed one today and a Winchester 04A (1904) .22 !

The handguard has a repairable crack in the front but other then that is just right. Got her for a whole $10.00.

    early 1903 hand guards

Very difficult to find the "high hump" hand guard today, even repaired examples are a find.
The early handguard without the sight groove and clips was never found except by chance

my photos show from top to bottom:

1, late hand guard with drawing number

    2. high hump hand guard

    3. high hump with sight groove but without clips (marked s)

    4. high hump without sight groove and without clips

A while back I met a guy who had the entire stock w/hardware and the handguard without the sight grove who offered it to me for 450.00 and I didn't take it. Even though I didn't need it for anything I still kick myself for not grabbing it.

I've got at least 8 Handguards from various years not mated with a stock that I have acquired from blind buys, in search of this one. I need to liquidate them though.

I suppose though I'll always be on the lookout for the High Humps.

Photos show the early S stamp and drawing number, there is another variation of the numbered handguard with a much larger drawing number

Years ago some company was making repro flat top hi hump handguards and you never

I've seen handguards with numbers stamped on them (not high jump) I just thought it was just an NM handguard
