    Mauser M96 stock repair

Many years ago I bought a nice Mauser M96 pistol manufactured before WW1, from a veteran. It had a matching numbered wooden stock and the pistol was all matching too.
The stock had what appeared to be a "battle field" repair, a thin steel band wrapped around the stock near the swivel.

Recently I read that during the post WW1 period this type of repair was a factory/arsenal repair and was a common stock refurbishment. Anyone have any additional information ?Attachment 93659Attachment 93660Attachment 93661Attachment 93662Attachment 93663
