    Not trying to derail the thread but, years ago they made smooth bore versions of .22 rifles specifically to shoot the .22 shot shells. No, they do not work very well in the rifled barrels but, in the smooth bores they worked much better. Even the Remington Model 572 pump action .22 is available in a smooth bore.
