A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... With no repro barrels available for the No.5, conversion to .410 on shagged barrel No.5's would be an excellent option, I know at least 3 people as well as myself that would have a .410 No.5..................except, the No.5 barrel is only 19" long, so therefore under the min allowed for Shotgun Cert ownership... hence no .410 JC's around.

These days shot out No4's are converted to .410. The cost of re barrelling (with a new manufacture barrel) is just too expensive ... That said, as good shooting No4's continue to rise in value as the available supply dwindles, re- barrelling is slowly getting more of an option.

Back in the 1970's and 80's though it was different, really good tight No4's were almost give away items, dirt cheap and plentiful, so new condition Rifles were regularly smooth bored for collectors on Shotgun certificates unfortunately.

Like everything John, rifle prices are going skywards especially little "gimmicks" like these in No4 Rifle...............better than a deactivated one sitting on the wall which would cost more IMHO

True mate, better than chopping them. I hear the last batch of LB No4 mk 1*'s that World Wide Arms deactivated were in excellent shooting condition, having seen very little use ... What a dreadful waste of good shooting grade Enfield's.

Been away for awhile. Saw this post. Looking at one right now. (GRI) I have Pakistani ammo for it in the case. Smelly original case. Pretty neat though. Word has it mine was converted to .410 before Britainicon gave up India. Has a blocked one round mag. Issued to Indian Police? Are these the rifles you speak of?

Sounds like yours is the No III conversion. These were official conversions and issued to Indian police.
