P.14 conversion to .22 lr by Parker Hale

While anyway doing some pictures, I also took the chance and did some pictures of my .22 converted P.14 rifle which originates from the Faris collection.

The very interesting thing is not only the fact that they used a lined barrel, but also that it appears they shortened the original bolt and welded on (?) a new locking lug (which funnily doesn't seem to be locking at all, just to act as guiding rib in the receiver rail).

Also note the Parker-Hale marking on the muzzle.

Love the big rifles done to .22, they always shot great because they were so heavy...

I might add how Ian Skennerton described the conversion to .22 of this rifle:

Barrel protrudes into bolt way, bolt modified by shortening, insert placed at front of bolt face with offset striker. Lug added to left side of bolt which runs in left hand bolt guide, slot milled into left side of body to allow bolt to close. No magazine spring & follower. Long range dial sights remain, no marking disc or screw in butt recess.

Very interesting! I guess the bolt handle is now the locking lug?
