    Winchester "luck out" value?

I have recently obtained a Winchester M1icon in the 2,400,000 SN range from a private seller which surveys out as pure Winchester. ALL parts and components are WRA. 3 small parts although WRA do not fit in the time of original production but are close enough to perhaps be production "switch overs". All metal is in very good condition with no rust and excellent original finish. Bore is perfect and the Barrel gauges out at 1 1/2 at both the muzzle and breech The one down side is the Stock, (which is WRA), has been sanded to the point that all Cartouches are gone and then refinished with a shiny and poorly applied finish. (I suspect LinSpeed). I have removed this finish and am in the process re-doing the stock with BLOicon. My understanding is that this Rifle might be considered more of a "Collector" rather than a "Shooter" and I have no idea of its value. Can any one please enlighten me as to what this Rifles value might be? I fully intend to shoot the Rifle but if its Collector value is high I should probably sell it and get the Shooter I want. All comments will be appreciated.

You need to post a series of good photos before assessing anything.

I will post photos after the Rifle is reassembled and its new repro stock is fitted and finished. The original Winchester stock is about done soaking up BLOicon and will be kept to be used when needed. Thank you for your responses.

Shottist, what are the three parts that you don't think match the ser# range ? I have an Aug. 1944 WRA SER# 24788xx that was received by a friend of my dad through the DMC around 1980. The rifle was original except for the stock and trigger group. My dad bought the rifle from his friend in a divorce sale about a year after he received it and he gave to me as my first Garandicon about 1995. I can check my rifle against the parts in yours to see if anything matches

I also own a Winchester 2.4. It is my most accurate M1icon. I shoot it regularly.

I would not hesitate to fire it, as long as the headspece is correct. If you are concerned about wear use it sparingly, but fire others. They are a great rifle to own and shoot.

    Enjoy it.
