Anyone searched for Craig Riesch 7th edition lately ?

Many who have it....... well you look.
What's with the prices ??

I bought one at a show in May for $20. The seller told me a death had occurred, and wasn't sure if anyone would take over and continue to publish these, or not? Moderator JimF has more details and will probably be along with them shortly. Others have said to expect an 8th edition to be available very soon. Mine is still in it's cellophane wrap - have been thinking of storing it in the safe. - Bob

I have heard what Bob has posted. Also poicked one up at a May show for $20. I would think the family would continue publishing. Has to be their golden goose business, but you never know.

ABE has a few copies from $160 up to $960/USD thats pretty rough better to try and swoop at a gun show even a grubby copy at $20 bucks is better than being ripped off you could try Kindle to see if there is an electronic version not the best but its better than nothing......

Bought edition 7 about two years ago and paid 25 bucks with tax. I use it as an instant reference, but usually if I have doubts about the data inside switch over to either War Baby or the CCNL's. I didn't know the prices had jumped so much on it. The problem is there's not a beginner reference that's worth a poo, unless you one wants Larson's book of lies and fake parts or the old Harrison book, which has its own errors. While edition 7 of Riesch's book is not prefect, it is a decent startup book for someone that either bought their first carbine or had one fall in their lap for some multitude of reasons.

Maybe our budding collectivists can advise on what an acceptable markup is. Apparently they have a number in mind - either that or they have never sold anything at a profit. As the country philosopher once said, "Let them that don't want none find pleasure in not getting any." Don't like the price? Then don't buy.

The lesson is that scarcity is reflected in rising prices and that a rising price signals the market to produce more of what is desired. That copyright won't sit idle for long.

I suspect in this case there's an additional element at work that distorts supply and demand. Here's a passage from an article on a quirk in amazon.com's system:

Several days ago when I looked on-line for the 7th edition, all were used. At that time, I didn't see any "in stock." One seller mentioned they usually receive about one copy per year! I believe it was the same seller who offered to "buy yours" for around $3. Other sites had the 4th edition listed for around $200 - can't remember, but most likely were used. - Bob
