    Springfield Armory Road Trip

I'll be taking the motorcycle on a 1k mile round trip to Mt Washington to drive up to the summit. I'm going to take a route that allows me to visit the Armory. I'm planning on overnighting in Springfield so I'll have basically a whole day minus the time it takes to get there from home. My question to anyone from that area is do you have any suggestions on any other attractions of a Military nature I may want to check out?

Westover AFB is pretty much inactive, Smith & Wesson might have a tour (worth a phone call), the Basketball HoF is sort of like a conflict. Nothing else I can really think of.

Unfortunately S&W no longer provides tours. I will swing by the factory for a front gate pic though. I did find out S&W has a museum as well so I will hit that. Don't care much for B-Ball.
Any good food joint suggestions would help too. I'll eat anything but raw fish and Brussel sprouts.

In 2010 we were back there. S&W didn't have a tour then either. And the sales area people were rude depending on what state you were from. I wasn't imporessed.

Loved the Springfield Armory tour. They have a great display area, and the old belt driven machines were cool on the walking tour. The periscope 1903's were interesting. And when I was there they had Eisenhower's Garandicon. McNamara shut it down in 1968 I believe. What a mistake in my opinion.

You will be glad you made the stop.

Guess you'll want to avoid "Sprout Sushi World".
I grew up there, but been away too long to make any food suggestions. Used to be some good little Polish and Italianicon joints. The demographics of the city have REALLY changed over the last 30+ years.

I'm guessing your route is 95 and 91 for the bulk of your trip. I can't think of anything else close along that route.
If you come back a different route and you're interested in Military sites in general, you might consider taking 95 and jumping off to Fall River Mass. Battleship Cove http://battleshipcove.org/ is always worth a visit if you're in the area. Maybe not quite as far off your route is the Sub Base at New London (which is actually across the river in Groton). They don't have public tours of the base but there is a pretty good museum that includes the USS Nautilus (which does have self guided tours).

You guessed it, my plan is taking I-95 on the return. That way I travel through Rhode Island and I can cross off the Northeastern States. Going to shoot over to Maine while at Mt Washington. Thanks for the leads.

    That we do my friend...

Ohhh, I threw on new progressive front springs and progressive rear shocks and a new seat with a sheep fur/gel pad. Should've bought a RoadKing but it's more fun spending money trying to turn a Softail into one, plus they aren't as pretty.
