    THOMPSON 22CAL CONVERSION KIT

Have a line on a kit that includes bolt, bolt carrier, barrel and magazine. It is supposedly for a 1927A1. I have completely no knowledge about these kits and at the same time very limited knowledge of the Thompson in general. Are these a complete after-market manufactured item? Do they work in a full auto mode as well as semi and what should a kit like this go for in $$$$...a rough estimate please so a fair offer can be made....this is assuming that parts are correct and condition is at least good including one magazine. Are they a well made reliable conversion kit?
    Thanks guys.

It actually depends on which one, do you have pics? The ones Numrich sold decades ago were neat and the same as the originals. The originals were a neat toy that did anything the gun did. The 1927A1 you speak of ,may mean it's a semi kit for the extreme long barreled model...with the stretched mag catch hold in the mags. The closed bolt model gun...

The $$ value would depend on which kit... Gunbroker doesn't have any nor does subguns.com.

Best to check the Thompson website where they are discussed, most require additional gunsmith work to iron out known problems. Numrich started
offering a drop in kit in the 1980's using a Reising rim fire magazine insterted in a 20 round TSM magazine, later a 22 rim fire miniature drum was offered.
Never popular and the miniature drum is rare. Other Numrich kits or guns were available in 22 rim fire later on. Ciener also has a nice 22 rim fire kit for
    all models of the TSM

I had a Ceiner kit for my Savage M1A1icon TSMG but confess that I never installed it or tried it. The price was $750. I enjoy the gun so much in .45ACP that I went ahead and sold the conversion unit for what i had in it as new in the box. The only requirement is that you had to remove the original ejector before installation if memory serves.

Got to agree with you there...I'd likely want a dedicated gun for that. I used the sub cal in my FN on auto enough to know they're great and hard on an ammo budget though.

Thanks guys for the input......I was browsing a auction site and there I found the kit. I don't own a thompson but never the less the bid seemed rather on the cheap side so I became rather curious and interested.....maybe I could use it for trade bait for something else.
    Cheers.
