Looks like an Irish contract #4 Lee Enfield in caliber .303. They came into the country in the preservative wrap and new but this one has been unwrapped so it's value may be reduced by half. Now it's considered an as new rifle but it's not NEW in wrap. The cheek rest that was added has devalued it as there are now two screw holes there that shouldn't be. Value is best determined by watching CanadianGunNutz and see what they are paying for them, not asking for them. Prices in other countries have nothing to do with us here in Canadaicon... They do sell very high though.

    Welcome to the forum...
    Regards, Jim

Thanks for the info Jim! Any idea what the "S" stands for on the butt stock behind the cheek piece? There are no apparent holes in the cheek piece, it seems to be glued on.

The No 4 rifle had different lengths of butt - bantam, short, normal and long. That is a short butt.

The UF 55 number tells you it was made in 1955 at the Fazackerly factory. Late in the manufacture of this last model Lee Enfield.

The No 4 MK 2 is the 'model' when referring to the rifle.

Indeed the cheek piece is poorly fitted - any chance of softening the glue and removing cheek piece?, may make it more desirable for sale

The rifle looks really good, what idiot stuck the cheek piece on!

As the CP hasn't been screwed on (and assuming the CP hasn't been pinned on), I would be tempted to 'really gently' warm the cheek piece up with a hot air blower to see if it loosens and comes away.

It needs to come off without damaging the butt, that's for sure.

So that new shaped S is interesting. Looks like someone hoped to fool a less suspecting Lee Enfield knowledge base!!

The butts are not serialed to these Fazakerley rifles and could be changed to suit a larger build (or smaller) shooter. I know few that would use the S hort butt anyway. Swap it for one that is also an pristine F55 produced example in your length of pull - especially if there is a horror story / potential horror story under the cheek piece. I have its sister in the safe
