Fair enough...a bit of guesswork there on my part...

Damn Seaforth that is mental to an upside down islander like myself. That would be advertised in aus for $2000 and it would sell. Gotta move to canada some day.
dferguson, you could always take it to a gunsmith to see what he reckons about that cheekpiece, it may just be possible to get it off without hurting the stock. Not saying I know how, but there are some smart people out there. Why do terrible things like this happen to nice guns?

Wood is very forgiving. I always wanted to do a French Polishing course and finally did one several years ago.
You learn tricks there that would see you through something like this easily.
Don't despair, its a fairly easy job to do with the right filler and varnish trust me!!
If you can't do it take it to a French Polisher or a local piano shop they will be the guys.

Same sort of price it would go for here in UK, maybe even a bit more, have seen £1500 being asked here for something like that.

Lee Enfield No 4 Mk 2 in unissued mint condition
Gentlemen, thank you very much for the information provided on the rifle. In case any of you are interested, I have decided to sell the rifle. GUNPOST | Local classifieds for used firearms in Canada If I kept the rifle it would get marked or rusty and it's too nice a piece to do that to, so I've decided to sell.

Can't imagine how it would get rusty, but moving it on is normal too...thanks for getting back to us with the end result.
