    Brand new 91/59

I went to a gun show in Mesquite, Texas to get my son a .22 rifle, among other things... Got him his rifle and decided to sell a Yugoslav 24/47 Mauser I had. It was nothing special, just a basic factory 44 but it was all matching and had a new, mirror bore.

One thing about this part of Texas is it is a Mauser desert. I only had three people show any interest and one offer- $250. Considering the prices extent that wasn't dirt cheap, it was just dirt. So I set out to see if I could wangle a trade, and so I did.

There were quite a few Mosins about with prices starting about $395. The most interesting thing I saw was a Finn M27 but it was ^00 something, way too rich for me. I have been wanting a shorter Mosin, an M44 or 38 but I have really been wanting a 91/59 but I can't remember when I last saw one for sale and didn't really expect to find one- wasn't even actually consciously thinking about one when there it was! He also only had $300 on it making it about the cheapest Mosin in the place! I don't see how he figured that. Anyway, he agreed to an even swap. Personally, I think I got the better part of that trade but, he was happy too so it was a good one.

This thing is factory new! I do not believe it has been fired since it was proofed. Anyway, here's pics.
Pics aren't co-operating, still trying... Got 'em!

A friend had one of those we banned him from shooting it at the range in summer lest he start a grass fire such was the gout of flame that came out of the end of the barrel every time he let go.......

Did they mill the graduations off the sight ladder due to the short barrel!

That's exactly right. Remember, this was previously a 91-30.

I would say that is about as mint condition of a Mosin as I have ever seen. Great find and great purchase.

Thanks! I confess to being surprised to see one priced as it was and more surprised when he accepted my offer of an even swap.

The next thing to find is some of the special ammo for these rifles loaded with the AK weight bullets. I still have a little stashed away in it's original boxes.

Much less recoil than the usual 7,62x54r loads!

That would work also for the M44 I guess, correct?

I don't see why not, aside from possible zero shift. IIRC, my ammo is of East Germanicon origin.

Of course. I’m enjoying holidays and was a bit distracted while reading and writing.
Here I don’t have any reloading references at hand showing the 123 grs. Bullet for the 7,62x54R.
The 180 I load with 45 grs. Of N140 from Vihtavuori or 44 of Lovex S060-2.
What would the load be for such a light bullet?
