    NQ,
Appears like a Putty repair between the Oiler slot and Butt plate.
You could use a Paint Pen/Marker to color it over for a better color match.

From your pictures the Sling Webbing looks legit as far as I can see.
Is the sling a D tip or C tip ?
Real C tips are running at and over $100.
Thought being, since your carbine has late features, I'd see no problem with a real post war D tip sling.
Money saved for ammo or to start buying needed tools..... like Bolt tool..etc

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Rare stock for a great price in very good shape. I don't see how you could have lost on that deal!

That can be a confusing statement. Singer Sewing Machines were made by Singer Manufacturing Company.
Singer was a worldwide company. The receivers as well as artillery shells were built in the Wheeler & Wilson factory in Bridgeport Connecticut. Interestingly the singer code for the plant was "W"
There is no direct proof of why Singer receivers were marked with a "B" I suspect it was an arbitrary letter assigned by Underwood.
Another US factory made wood crates for guns and other items as well as parts for gliders
Other factories in allied nations also produced items such as grenades

It is rumored that Singer Manufacturing plant in Germanyicon produced weapons or munitions for their troops.

Not a receiver, but here's a Singer that belonged to my mom - probably got it before I was born. Treadle operated of course, and I got in trouble once for messing with the "tension" adjustment! - Bob
