I'm now better placed to send you the P-H stuff Gil. Just had a browse, peering through a smoke encrusted screen at some Leatherwood stuff, comparing it to the No32. Too complicated by half apparently! The Envoy it was trialed against couldn't compete either. It's poor accuracy was put down to it being set up for use with US spec target ammo.

smoke encrusted screen, love it. Been there at my local library, you can imagine in the day, someone trawling records with a non stop *** burning, doesn't help when you have to see a difficult screen already due to its size!! You would think people would clean the screen wouldn't you?

Incidentally, for anyone remotely interested, this trial was using that enigmatic Envoy rifle with a sound moderator and Leatherwood sight. This rifle combination has been pictured on this site a couple of times with a Marine posing with it at Bisley in (we know the date now....) 1971. The rifle was converted in the US by Leatherwood to use on the trial with a hope that they'd be a replacement for the No32/L1A1. It was impossible to accommodate the Leatherwood on the No32 bracket and as such, the eye relief was insufficient. This caused black eyes when shooting and stiff necks/discomfort when using the sight as an observation device.

On that basis, that rifle, wherever it is now is 'historic' in that it didn't match the L42 for, well....., anything!

Certainly black eyes not a good solution or relief on the eye!!
