Those "L" magazines were a PIA to load.

I don't know...I didn't mind them too much unless you had to do it on the fly. Thing is they're noisy. Box mags are better for most application...

we had to remove the cosmolene (sp?)(with gasoline!)

That was what we used for years too, mixed 50/50 with rifle oil for preservation...
