Military loads for the 30 Carbine

Most US milsurp has 107 or 108 gr bullets and chronograph (Oehler M35P with middle screen at 15") at 1925-1950 fps out of numerous M1/M2 carbines. I use H110 and WSRs to duplicate the US military load with 110 gr bullets in US milsurp cases. I buy the powder in 8 lb jugs and then work up the load until the average velocity is right around 1925 fps. That has worked for me since '75 when I got my first Oehler chronograph. Before that I went by the manual loads for H110 with 110 gr bullets. They weren't to far off. Lot to lot differences in the powder and componants makes the difference. The current Lyman Manual #48 lists 15.5 gr H110 as max. They also show 2079 fps which is about right considering the 20" barreled univercial receiver used for the test. I've found my milsurp equivelent loads with H110 to fall between 15 and 15.5 gr depending on the lot of powder.

I use pulldown bullets and 14.0 Gr of WC820 Pulldown powder with CCI SR primers.

I have used this load for years in a win carbine and an Automag III with great accuracy in both.

LC brass
CCI 400 or Fed 205 primers
Speer 100 gr plinker
14.5 grs H110

YMMV

Milsurp 110 grain FMJ ammo is anemic. Not particularly accurate either. Work up a load for your carbine. That's the whole point of reloading. To be using the best possible ammo, not duplicating factory.
Speer 110 grain HP's with IMR4227(13.5 to 15.0(compressed)) and regular small rifle primers shoot extremely well out of my carbine. The same powder will do nicely for FMJ's. Don't buy a keg of any powder until you have found the load your carbine shoots best though.

H110 and Win296 are the same powder. Just different lots. Try 14.5 grains with a 110 gr. round nose bullet.

I noted you comment on March 2009 re. about H110 and the 110gr round nose. I plan to emulate the USGI load as close as I can, however I could not fine WSR primers. I did find Wolf magnum small rifle primers.

Any problem using these?
