Help trying to identify a Mauser Carbine (M1893?)

Hi, I'm trying to ID a Mauser that I bought at a local gun show this past weekend, it has virtually no markings except the serial number on the barrel and receiver and a "R" on the barrel. I am pretty sure that it is in the M1893 series of rifles (1893-96) and that it is a carbine, I do not know what caliber it is, yet, there is no hand guard and no provision for one or a rear band to retain it. I tried to do some research online on it and came up empty, there is nothing that I have seen that resembles this configuration for a 1893 series carbine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Looks like a Spanish 1893 Short rifle. It is missing the sling attachment on the left side of the butt stock, It is missing the handguard also. Stock has been heavily sanded to remove the middle barrel band offset.

Looks an awful lot like a 1916 Short rifle variant of the model 1893.

Some of these were converted to 7.62 x 51 Nato.

Yes, the front sight indicates it was converted to 1916 standards probably after the Spanish Civil War since all markings were ground off. Could also started life as a 1916 and gone though the same process. Basically the same rifle.

Likely a later production M1916 short rifle as it has the tangent rear sight (earlier production M1916 short rifles had the 'Lange Vizier' roller coaster rear sight). Fairly common to find without a crest. Caliber would likely be 7mm Mauser or 7.62 Nato as mentioned.

Thank you for the replies, pretty sure it is a 7mm, and definitely not 7.62x51, I tried to chamber one with the firing pin removed from the bolt and it would not seat, also tried putting the round in the end of the bore and it was too large. I am still trying to figure out the stock on the rifle, there is no provision for a handguard or a rear band and I cannot find a picture of a M1916 anywhere in the same configuration, my only guess is that it had been altered somewhere, by someone some time in its history.
