Thompson magazine converted to 22 cal rim fire

I found this some years ago and was impressed by the work involved to convert this 45 ACP magazine to work with the 22 rim fore cartridge. I am certain this magazine came from Numrich as they offered a "drop-in" kit to convert the Thompson Model 1928 to fire the 22 rim fire cartridge during the 1980's ? This kit had a special barrel liner and lightweight bolt, magazine or 22 rim rifle drum.

A special stamped magazine retainer was made to hold the Reising 22 rim fire pistol magazine which was held in the magazine by the spring, very solid arrangement. I can
only assume that this magazine conversion worked, as to the "drop-in bolt and barrel liner, I do not have any information

First time I've seen this one too, the one I'm familiar with is the long curved mag and the block that fits the mag guides on the receiver. Then you can either remove the whole affair of the small curved .22 mag by itself. I examined them back then but didn't buy one, my mistake. Mind you, I'd need two boys with buckets to keep ammo to it while on the range...

From what I get for info at the time, the drop in bolt and barrel...either worked well or didn't. I bet ammo type had a lot to do with it like many other firearms...
    Regards, Jim

That is an interesting gadget. Thanks for the post! Gives me some ideas for the .45acp FAL I'm thinking of.
