I need info if possible on an m1903

I was told this is the place to go for info, I have recently inherited some guns and there is an M1903 dated 5/43, I would like to know if there is a way using the serial number to find out if this firearm was in some sort of theater, I have high suspicions it was, there is beach sand imbedded in the strap, this gentlemens father was in the navy during ww2 and there is a letter from the military explaining they may ship him to a us hospital along with a very old prosthetic leg, I would love to be able to find the history of this gun as I find this very interesting and my friend never spoke of his father.

Pics and a serial number would start things off marvellously...

If you provide the complete serial number and ask for a Springfield Research Service check someone who has bought the SRS information might check to see if it is listed. A very small percentage of issue type 1903 rifles are in SRS records but you might get lucky.

Again, we need the serial number, but I will tell you that relatively few M1903A3s are listed on SRS.

No match in my copy of the Springfield Research Service.

    FYI, this is a 1903A3, not a 1903.

    robertmcdonald68,

This thread is as good a place as any to ask. Springfield Research Service records is the the only place I know of to check on information concerning military weapons.
