    Black powder cannon. .50 cal.

I hope these images came through as I have been away from this fine web site for quite awhile. Heart surgery, PTSD, etc.

Can anybody recognize the markings on the cannon? What general type is it? Napoleon?

It does have rifling but I have not shot it yet. Will work up to 29 grains BP. Going to try Minie .49 grain bullets. Found cannon at a small auction and nobody bidded

I almost got involved in a 1LB cannon once, took a 1LB lead downrigger ball...we decided against it as we'd have gotten in trouble I think. Nice find, take care of yourself...good to see you back.

I'd say a homemade job in the sprit of a Napoleon. I made one out of boredom one day in the sprit of an English style Ship cannon out of .32cal rifle barrel I had laying around and some Oak stair tread with a bit of copper pipe.
Watch out!! It'll bring out your inner kid and you'll be hunting the house for stuff to blow up with it

When we were a kid we made BP cannons. Lucky that we did not kill ourselves. One time we did not ram the ball down far enough and we had a pipe bomb! No nobody told us that would happen but we were behind a large tree.

Nice "boom" though! Your hand mades look great! I was hoping somebody make know the makers markings on my barrel. Looked for a couple of days and found nothing like it. I will take it to out family property and the woods

The gun itself looks like a Nappy 12 pounder, but it's a homemade carriage. The barrel probably is too. Lotta CF messes had 'em.
Dixie Gunworks and Traditions churn out working kits. .50 cal by Dixie. .69 by Traditions. Horrendously expensive things now. $769.00 from Traditions. The Dixie kit runs $129.95.

    Spelling and Grammar count!
