    HOW SAD

There I was looking at the history of the Harley Davidson in Military service especially in use with the Royal Military Police and came across this photo of the U.S Military Police. How sad to see so much racism even in WW2 that they needed to segregate their units like that.

I do not think society as a whole has totally moved on really Gil there are still those undertones the world over, I once played a season with an all aboriginal basketball team in Mullewa they were a great crew and we had allot of fun together of course I was the only "Whitey" in the team so they nik named me "Darky"! The full bloods I met there in my tenure working the land were awesome to talk to but like all things a few spoil it for the many and the group as a whole suffers.

    Cinders,
Agree totally and regardless of colour or creed, if you "Treat everybody the way you would expect to be treated yourself" you will never go wrong. Its no different to the Tongan/Fijian lads in 22SAS, they are an inspiration and a great credit to their countries, and alikened to the Gurkhas who have also served this nation well.

I am drifting off the subject slightly on what I started, but if you watch GLORY the movie, it would appear NOTHING has changed in comparison to that photo. A black unit formed in the Civil War and issued no boots of rifles for many months, and it was only the white Officers that had to fight to get that resolved, and finally when armed they showed how it should be done in battle!!
I think Abe Lincoln and JFK will be turning in their graves

We still saw the issues in the '70's in places like Ft Lewis WA. The north fort had clubs for white or black, at least they were only frequented by white or black if not marked thus. We came and went though without incident...because we stayed in uniform...
    Regards, Jim

    Jim,
So sad, when all creeds have spilled blood the same way to be treated in that way. Shameful.

The entire U.S. military was segregated until Harry Truman put a stop to it in 1948. Of course, that didn't end the racism.
The guys who built the Alaska Highway(1,387 miles/‎2,232 km. Dawson Creek, BC to Fairbanks, Alaska.), in 6 months, through a whole lot of nothing but muskeg, mosquitoes and black flies were black.
    Spelling and Grammar count!

Classism, Racism, different sides of the same coin. Unfortunately it's a part of human nature to look down on those who are different.

What could be even sadder is overlooking racism because you need the help. Then when your in the clear, finally noticing that things are not always the same as they initially appeared and then wanting to do something about it.
