I can put the GB auction up with all the pictures.
Described as varnished, but I believe they used a coat of Shellac.
I scatter crates, ammo cans, lockers and even a couple land mine crates among my displays..... but really do forget what is where when I store things in them.
Wife laughed at me when I opened it. Asked what was in it. I replied it's a empty box.

What struck me about your crate was that it's got exactly the same screw closures as a Greek HXP .303 crate I have. The Greeks may have recycled old US boxes.

I lose things all the time now. I'm afraid it's a sign of age and having far too much 'stuff'

This S'G' I'm watching/thinking about on GB (with the in question safety: (E-S'G')
Has a odd looking Barrel Band. I know these were used on some make of commercial Carbine......... But don't recall who it was that used them.
Any thoughts of which Company used these ?
I'm assuming it isn't a cut down Type III band since it isn't marked any where.

BTW... It's bid just over $1K with just under 24 hrs as I type this.
S'G' 3,6 mil, Type II Hi-wood stock with boxed S'G' and CC, With the large RSG letters in slingwell.
Inland 1-44 barrel. No Import stampings or any mention/sight of Rebuild/Depot/Armory markings.
Type I rear sight with Block S Flip.
Op slide, Flat bolt, Trigger housing and internals etc all S'G' marked.
S'G' Straight hammer with 22 coil spring. No pictures showing hammer strikes.

I've sent some questions but as of now no replies.

Charlie, S'G' ended production in December 1943. The last Inland barrels were December 1st 1943. Oh and the rear sight does not look to healthy.

I can never keep the dates correct when dealing with IR-IP, S'G' and SG.

Can say I've seen my share of S'G' and SG's with the Dovetail edges peened over instead of Chisel stake.
Also common to see that under the rear sight base on the receiver has been milled too deep on these.

Sure about the rear sight ?
Think its fake ?

The Barrel band is wrong , S'g' never used type 2 barrel bands . IBM , Rock-Ola , Inland , NPM , Winchester , used type 2 barrel bands towards the middle to end of production.

The Square S rear sight is USGI but I don't recall ever seeing one on a S'G' , you would be more likely to see a W-S'G' , B-SG or RG-SG at this serial number range .

Sq. S flip sometimes found on late SG carbines....... Not S'G'.
Now with this one I'd be nervous about trying to remove the Rear sight with the way the Dovetails are peened way over on the edges.
My luck............ they'd chip or bust.

Carbine sold for $1600.
Even with the commercial barrel band, repro safety and late D tip sling I thought it might be a good buy for a parts carbine.
Might have jumped on it had the barrel been original to the receiver.
But not worth $1600 to me as it was.
And never did find out anything about the Mag catch, Frt sight or any info/pictures of previous stake marks on the Dovetails.

But it was a good looking stock

The peened over Dovetails ?
Or the too deep milling on the receiver under the sight base ?
