Swedish FM23-36 Mauser "trials rifle"

A few weeks ago I noticed this at an auction. I thought it might be some kind of sporterized hack job, but found that it is actually a rare FM 23-36 Swedish

My FM23-36 trials rifle arrived at the FFL to begin the 10 day "cooling off" period.

Stock is in great shape, as is the bluing. bore looks great and all numbers seem to match. I grabbed a few pictures before it went into my FFL's safe

Because of the caliber, I'll bet it's a tack driver. Careful with your loading though, they can be damaged... Load to lighter spec I'd say. Factory but not hot.

I've seen several of those distinctive actions factory assembled post war as sporting rifles.

At least 2 of them were chambered in 8x57, so they are plenty strong.

Facinating, your link says that the rifles i've seen were actually war time assembled "partisan rifles" intended for resistance groups to use German ammunition in the case of German invasion and occupation.

I'll have to see if i can relocate one of them.

I finally got a chance to compare the FM23-36 to my CG63 Swedish target rifle



It is clear that the barrel profile on the FM23 is significantly heavier than the CG63. I tried to take a few pictures to demonstrate that...







Still have to get these rifles out to the range for a shoot off.
