    Mills Bomb replica/trainer

I've been wanting a Mills bomb for my displays for some time now but not willing to pay what people are asking for one and replicas seen to be out of stock everywhere except in the UKicon which refuses to export due to their laws..

Today I found a mills bomb for $60 It is not one of the nice ones however. It is a solid cast grenade with no movable parts and is missing the spoon. No markings at all. metal is non-metalic so I'm thinking zinc or pot metal.

The casting is somewhat crude, misalligned and has excess metal at the seam.

I've spent a lot of time on the net trying to locate a similar example with zero success. If this is a legit training grenade I don't have a problem with that price. But a replica not so much.

Anyone have any opinions on what it is. I'm pretty strongly leaning toward replica due to the crudeness and being solid. No examples I found were either.

I firmly believe it's a practise grenade for throwing practise. I HAVE seen such though don't have one on hand. They weigh the same so they work for practise.

    Sounds more like a repro.
"...not willing to pay what..." Not surprising. Collector's Source(well known bandits selling very high end stuff) want $300Cdn. plus for one. $45.00 for a base plug alone. Mind you, none have been made since 1970. And it appears that there just aren't any Stateside.

Took some photos of it. If it's military, I'll pick it up. If repro I'll let it be.

The good ones were usually real that had been altered for repeat use or cast from solid rubber... This one doesn't look like an original made by the people that made them.

Military usually stamps everything and all over. That looks like AL with BBQ paint. It'd do for a display though. You can always paint the thing.

Understanding how difficult real ones are to get, would you think $60 is too much for this? I'm thinking it is but it's not like it's going to break me financially and I had considered cleaning it up, putting the grooves in for a spoon etc. It could be aluminum. I didn't consider that but now that you mention it, I'm slapping my forehead.

"...$60 is too..." Would be for me, but it's not $300 either. Display stuff doesn't have to be real or even issue.
