A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. The serial number and accompanying "BO" mark look like Indian markings. I have a 2A1 rifle that is serialed on the mag in nearly the same font.

    I agree that it's a MkIII mag modd'ed to fit a No.4.

In 1941 a contract was issued to modify 100,000 No. 1 magazines for the No. 4.They are not uncommon to find.

I have one of the converted SMLE mags as my back up No4 magazine in my range bag.

It's another interesting Enfied side story.
