A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Unfortunately, not a lot is know about the use of the Liberator pistol since these guns were made under great secrecy for the OSS. Distribution was probably through them. I also doubt that Ike would have been involved in the decision to use them. The question is really how much bang do I get from the use of the pistol if it takes up space in an aircraft when I can be supplying more effective weapons like the Sten MKII, or .38 Colt or S&W Revolvers. The other problem is takes a lot of nerve to walk directly up to a well armed, trained enemy soldier (who is usually not alone) and kill him with a single shot smooth bore pistol. A few Liberators were probably given out as a "last shot" weapon or gifts (probably just to get rid of them.) I have read that in the Philippines the local guerillas used them to great effect. The Philippine guerillas would also wear the dead Japaneseicon soldier's uniform whom they killed as a badge of honor and bravery. Needless to say they were forced to take them off after the US started to re-occupy the Philippines for fear of the local guerillas being mistaken for Japanese soldiers.
As with any weapon dreamed up by a headquarters staff bears no sense of reality in the operational field environment.

    Cheers
