    No4 front sight

I bought a no4 years ago before I got interested in Milsurps so I didn’t know what I was buying. The front sight has been removed and the dovetails that index the front sight have been ground off. I would love to put a set of original wood on it and use the iron sights. I once read that I someone had used a Springfield 03’ sight maybe? What are my options?

here are some photos. It shows the length of the barrel, the overall and the roll pin groove. I'm not missing anything am I? if its gonna be some major overhaul it will become a sporter hunting rifle since its there anyway. Just like original battle garb and iron sights better. I appreciate the info so far, just looking for more suggestions.

You have a No4 Mk1 that has been sporterized. Unfortunately, Bubba also chopped a piece off the front of the barrel that had the bayonet lugs and removed the front sight block. No4's are not exactly rare so, it's probably easier to get a complete unaltered No4 than trying to restore your sporter. You really need a new barrel, barrel bands, front sight assy and stock set and by the time you find a smith capable of doing the barrel work and bedding the stock, you probably spend way more that the rifle will be worth afterwards. Just enjoy the rifle as a shooter in the condition you have it or sell it as is and buy an unaltered, complete No4.

#6 has it right your better off finding a complete No.4 like a Maltby or LB Savage No.4's are like A-eholes everyone has one, trust me in saying from my bringing back a nearly complete Lithgowicon 1916 MkIII 5MD back to @99% period correct as a quest it was a thoroughly long term project took about 8 years for particular items to come up was painful and expensive process.
Not that No.4's are scarce its chasing the gear and then having the gunsmith bed the action fit the new barrel $330/Au minimum here + the barrel anywhere from $450 for repro or $5-600+ for a NOS.

Yeah that’s what I figured. I’ve shot the gun (carefully) into a tank dam and it operates flawlessly. The only problem is sighting it. With all this being said it will probably just get handed down to the kids as a deer rifle with an interesting history. I’ll scope it and just keep my eyes peeled for another one. Sure am gonna hate having to buy another gun😀. Thanks gentlemen!
