The barrels, I forget sometimes not everyone has a lathe which makes this problem a non-issue for me. My timing was good when I got into the MG42 thing. I've got 4- 7.92x57 "8mm Mauser" barrels for the M53 and 1- MG3 barrel. I can also make my own.
What you can do is have one made from 1919A4 barrel as they are plentiful and cheap $69.99. Buy a barrel extension with stub from RTG $15.95 and bore it out. Then have the threaded stub pressed on and welded to a turned down barrel to make a good barrel in 7.62 Nato.
I haven't looked at it yet, but I think you can turn a MG34 barrel into a MG42 barrel as well. Israeli MG34 barrels are common and cheap too. That would take care of the 8mm barrel needs.

You will have decide your level of commitment and budget you want to get into. Easiest response is to clean up the parts and sell individual on appropriate sights. Next stage in commitment and cost is the dummy build. I do not know how many demilled barrels exist, but they should be a fraction of the cost of a live barrel. Plus, how hard is it to locate the host dummy receiver? Does anybody even make them any more?
Final option is to build it into a live semi auto. That is going to end up costing you thousands. Not to discourage, but if you don’t have the build skills, you are paying for those skills. I have heard Wiselite guns (M53) have issues as this is, in my understanding, a fairly difficult build, to get a smooth running firearm minus issues.

All the best in your process!

You could just preserve and hold for a while until the path becomes more clear.

Well the last time I had a semi auto MG42 in my hands was last night as I was putting it into the safe after using it at my Builders and belt fed shot that was on Sunday, Nov 25th 2018. We had two on the range and I know that several of the folks there did not bring theirs.
The end of the buffer spring is Germanicon and there might be a few more German parts. That said building a MG42 / m53semi is not easy. Try - MG42.US for several good builds and other info.
Brian at BRP (listing in post above) is a good person for help. Also up to what you paid and want to add to the total cost you might want to think about buying a complete (cut up of course) receiver and using your current parts as spare or build with parts. 2 sources have complete receivers for sale. Barrels, well $200 and up these days, or build your own or get the barrel from green mountain and add a used extension.
The barrel holder is the good piece in the deal.

    Later 42rocker

Well, You have a lot there with quite easy potential!
LOTS of Oil soaking a small ball of fine grade wire wool. (DONT use wirewool WITHOUT Oil!!!)
And rub the parts all over individually. You will be surprised how this brings the bluing up & transform the finish!

Use an old toothbrush to work oil into crevices on the working parts to kill any rust as well.

You will be amazed how much nice it looks, & this may well spur you on to do a Semi Build perhaps?
Even a Dummy Display would look good as an option.
