Just need to find a place that I can test beyond 100 yards. My own range is only capable of that.

Although chronographing my loads and running my ballistics program has really worked out well for me with the scoped guns.

Yes a longer range is always preferable to estimating at a shorter range. However, the amount of height above your POA is proportional to POI at a longer range. Is it match accuracy? No but probably "minute of deer". If your ballistic program reports a 300 yard zero, it will also give you the over/under at other ranges. There are always a large number of variables, altitude, temperature, bore condition, shooter, that will have an impact on the down range POI.

The shooter is usually the biggest problem here. I got caught with one of my 303's this fall.
My sons rifle wouldn't go off so I gave him the one I was using and grabbed the 303 that I had used last year. Had a shot at a standing deer a little over 200 yards and missed twice.

Brought it home and shot it and bang on at 100 yards. Forgot that I had adjusted it when some new shooters came out so they could hit small plastic bottles filled with water.

    Dumb shooter.
