SRS check on my early RIA.....

Serial number RIA 218855. Also, RIA 9-12 date on top of barrel. Also, can anyone tell me what the K 5 over P means on the bottom of the barrel? Any help/information will be greatly appreciated. The rifle metal is in very good condition. The bore appears a little cloudy with fairly good rifling. The stock is an S type, and might be a replacement. No cartouches are evident, and the stock is in great condition. Thanks again.

The letter and number under the P is the steel lot number for the barrel

C.S. Ferris' book on the Rock Island M1903 is a "must" if you want information on these rifles. Sounds like a correct barrel.

Sorry no SRS for your RI rifle but RI 218851 was listed at Cornell University in 1936. ROTC program would be a guess.

Thanks Tom. Do you think those Cornell rifles would have been randomly numbered? Probably so, I would think. Also, would they have left the ROTC rifles functional? I know my rifle probably wouldn't have been one of them, but just curious.

Depending on where on the barrel, P could mean "proof fired" depending on where on the barrel it's stamped.

The "P" is located on the underside of the barrel just below "K 5".
