NOS Lithgow No 1 MKIII ?

Saw a unicorn this weekend. What appeared to be an unfired Lithgow No1 Mk III dated 1941. Pristine condition bolt & action numbers matched no# on the nosepiece. No prefix on the serial so I do not think it was a JJCo bitster though it did have a very discreet JJCo mark under the rear handguard. Has anyone seen what I have described? I have hand have seen JJco No 1 Mk IIIs but none as nice as this one.

Did it have an 'A' suffix at the end of the serial number? My guess it did and, if so, it's one they had cobbled together.

1941 Lithgow would normally have a B,C or D prefix. Your going to have to give us more information, but for the record as new condition lithgows exist. Particularly actions dated 41,42, 43,44 and 45

I have a JJCO 1940 MKIII with what would look like all matching numbers, apart from fore-end, and with a 'D' prefix I think? Only thing is if you look at the nosecap number there is a 3 which is an upside down 2. The stock has been fitted quite nicely to the barrel and action but it is a mystery piece to me overall. The finish of the parts is all quite nice and the wood is somewhat colour matched.

Based on the input and a bit more research I believe it was legit. Wish I had bought it.

Buy now and figure it out later HOH as the stuff you should have brought does not turn up again and if it does its usually at allot higher price than when you stopped at the purchase. Thats my motto anyway you can always on sell the item if it is not quite what you wanted.

I am trying learn to operate outside of my " impulse buy" comfort zone but having bought a (to me) expensive FN-49 a couple of weeks ago I was afraid I had used up my good luck as it appears to be worth $400 to $500 more than I paid. I might just try tracking the guy down and see if he still has it.

1941 action, no prefix with the serial number. How do you figure it was legit?
Also no number on the nose cap is very possible but risky if you have a limited understanding of lithgows

I have not studied the Enfields in a while I thought the JJCo assembled rifles had a double letter prefix?

PS In retrospect I may have overlooked a single letter prefix. Old eyes and left my light @ home
