A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Looks like a receiver heel clearly visible at the bottom of his white apron, most are being stored throat up, most likely a step in the finishing process. Great photo I had never seen before.

    Thanks Mark

Wonder if they're numbered yet? Love to be able to have a look at this stage...they'd number before hardening.

There's hundreds, a few thousand? Wonder how many? I guess as you needed them, you'd come get a case, like pop bottles and go to the numbering machine, then the furnace for heat treat and assemble...after their primary inspection and approving of course. Breaking sharp edges with files and such... They'd have to turn me upside down and shake me at shift end.
    Regards, Jim

    Boxes

Yes, the classic SA receiver boxes, each with 20. They went from station to station in these.
