    Christmas Treat

On Sunday I attended the Lee Enfield Rifleicon Association's Christmas 'Turkeyicon Shoot' comp (we don't shoot turkeys, but you can win one).

I'd asked the secretary to bring along the club's De Lisle Carbine.

    Caption:
RCO - "a bit more to the right and about 3 feet higher"
ME- "I'll see what I can do, but I'm not sure that this was intended for 200 yards".

Seriously, I was very fortunate and privileged to shoot LERA's De Lisle Carbine. Not an original, but as someone else posted, about as close as you'll get. Recently refurbished, it was whisper quiet. All I could hear was the click of the striker and pop of the primer.

The chap sitting next to me was actually spotting for me and his words were: "Wow, that's so slow, you can see the bullet going down the range!"

5 rounds of .45 ACP and I never did hit the target, but it was intended for taking out sentries at about 25 yards, not 200.

    And I won the turkey

Recall the written description of the initial demo and firing by one of the staff officers present...to the effect of "There were a number of duck swimming on a pond four hundred yards distant, upon firing one remained and the others took flight". Upon examination it was shot through the body I think, it was said "I was aiming for the head"... "Haw, Haw, Haw" all around.

Yes, sentry dispatching at 25/30 meters would be about right. I've handled local built models and they work OK at close but aren't greatly accurate at much range. They sure are a nice item though. Don't use reduced loads though, they want full house FMJ.
    Regards, Jim

I was paying a visit to Chris G's a few months back just after he'd finished doing another one of his, so first time I got to have a fondle of one in the flesh so to speak.......have to admit that I'd love one in the gun cabinet.......but doubt it will happen.
