    Questions on 1903 springfeild rifle?

Not sure where to go on this thread. I have a 1903 springfeild rifle I have questions abut and not sure where to take them?

---------- Post added at 12:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:49 PM ----------

I have a 1903 Rifle barrle dated 9/28 SA the action has no numbers what so ever and I can't find no information of origin of this rifle, I have read some where some of these rifles were remanned and numbers were removed. I am not sure what to do with this situation. I want to restore this rifle to military and be able to fire this weapon at will, but with no information on it should I just put it through a saw and cut it in half and scrap it?

Try asking down on the 1903 forum. That said, If the serial # has been scrubbed, I would strip it for parts.

Agreed. You can get a new serial number if you get ahold of a cooperative ATF agent but there’s always a chance it won’t work out so well. And it’ll never be original.

If it were mine, the parts would be off and receiver would be a pile of steel bits and slag by now. The ol’ oxy-acetylene makes quick work of it!

The military never removes their numbers without re-striking a number. Usually they leave the original and barr out the old one. Yours is illegal in any US state I think. Salvage and saw...

    No Number

This is a sporter rifle. You are likely looking at a real Sedgley Sporter. Sedgley commonly removed the serial number to hide the fact that is a "low-number" Springfield. A true Sedgley Sporter has collector value and must not be destroyed. Most competent '03 Collectors will spot the real McCoy and try to buy it on the cheap. Be aware of what you have there. Do not destroy it.

My point is without pictures it’s logical to assume it’s been scrubbed by some paranoid past owner.
Probably more of those around than genuine Sedgley sporters.
I’ve had Krags scrubbed of all markings and I’ve seen A LOT of 1911s with their US property marks crudely scratched off.
