Question on early GP 90/23 cartridge

I have two early 7,5 Swissicon cartridges in my collection, one is the GP 90/03 with the patched lead, steel capped round nose bullet (211 grs) and the other is the GP 90/23 loaded with the FMJ round nose bullet.

On the GP 90/23 FMJ round nose thereAttachment 97951Attachment 97952 is a wax ? seal around the case mouth and rear section of the bullet as noted in my photo.

My question, what is the purpose of this wax seal ? is it removed before you fire the cartridge or do you fire the cartridge with the wax seal ?

    This may help.

The patch ala Wax is intended to be shot with the round. They come off so you can have ammo its not on.

The wax ring is nothing more than a long term storage measure.
I know all of thee "theories", but it's not for lubricating the bore.
Go here.......... SwissRifles open the Ammunition links on the left.
The new Mfg. GP11 is not crimped and has no wax ring.

Also GP-11 up until about 78-79 had wax seals in the same place. After that point they decided it wasn't needed.
