German Model 71 Mauser in 6.5mm caliber ?

My buddy and I were spending time shooting the $ith yesterday and he asked me if I knew what this rifle is and what caliber it is. In looking around it looks like it might be a model 71 Germanicon Model 71 Mauser. It looks to me that the cartridge with it is a rimed 6.5mm caliber.

What do you guy make of it?

It is a Frenchicon conversion of the M-71 to the 6.5mm Daudeteau cartridge . Done as a private sales by Dovitiis to small countries . Some went to Uruguay .

Bob thanks for the help. Any idea what is different besides the cartridge? This rifle is missing the bands and cleaning rod so I'll need to find them.

Some owners of these Mausers converted to use the 6.5 Daudeteau cartridge do reload, some use 7,62x54R or 45-70 brass. There is also a carbine too

Interesting, so if one can use 7,62x54R can a 6.5x54mm Mannlicher Schoenauer reloading die be used, knowing that I would have to compensate for the rim? Unless someone has cartridges for sale I can buy. He would like to try shooting the rifle.

Thanks! $4.47 when you include shipping. Might be better to get the brass and use the 6.5x54mm Mannlicher Schoenauer reloading seating die since the smallest lot is 20 rounds.

    Model 1871 calibers

You can buy (expensive) RCBS reloading dies for the 6,5x53.5R Daudeteau for $152.00, but there might be other ways to reload this cartridge using a combination of loading dies from other calibers. Velocity is only around 2300 FPS.

I have a photo of a 6.3x53R mm cartridge which is the 7,62 Russianicon necked down, both Finlandicon and the Soviets used this cartridge. In Finland it was used for hunting until sometime around the middle 1950's. the Soviet loading is more powerful.

There is a Model 1887 for sale on one of the dealers websites, this was the last and improved version of the Model 1871. It is chambered for the Turkishicon 9,5x60R which is
