A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. One of the strongest emotions I ever felt as a boy was in Venegono, where Aermacchi has its seat, when a Macchi 205 Veltro and an F4 Corsair made a sort of dogfight and, at the very end, “strafed” the public at high speed and veeeeery low level.
I still smile thinking of that day...

I stood behind a P38 from start up to taxi off to experience the propwash, not knowing I'd experience lots more through time. Still, at least I felt the power of a P38, most have never seen one personally...

I was fortunate enough to see Canadianicon 2nd world war ace Jerry Billings of Essex Ontario who piloted and stored actor Cliff Robertson's Spitfire fly on many occasions near Windsor Ontario. There is nothing quite like the purr and whistle of the Merlin it gives you goose bumps and makes the heart flutter.

I saw a Mk 9 owned by Don Plumb flying over Blytheswood school when I was in about grade 7 and knew exactly what I was seeing. No one else even looked up to see it doing slow rolls above... Later saw it at the same show I spoke of.

My dad said of the Merlin which he worked on was one of the greatest aero engines of its time along with the aircraft it was in the Spitfire it saved our bacon along with the faithful war horse Hurri.

I managed to get up close to a P-51 years ago at Jandakot I only touched the wing tip as one must show respect but oh my what an aircraft, tucked up on the floor was a partly dis-assembled/stored Mig 15 twin seater that was only allowed to take off never to return due to noise restrictions from the surrounding suburbs had a good gecko at that on but the 51 boy it was nice.

Simply breathtaking, glad there are people around who have the cash to get these machines airworthy and keep them that way. I remember Spitfires flying when I was a kid, but never sixteen together!!
On our 40th wedding anniversary, a lone Spitfire flew overhead just as we had all got out into the garden, uncanny.

    Don't forget the Mossie.
