M2 Stock Questions

Just got a few boxes of stocks and hand guards in.
I have 2 potbelly M2 stocks.
The one marked HI in the slingwell has the big rounded bottom. I know this one is for Inland.
But the 2nd one has a flat pot belly (If this makes sense) Like a Winchester stock.
It is marked only in the slingwell with a W and small flaming bomb.
NOTE in the picture how much heavier the "W" stamp is when compaired to the regular M1 stocks.......

Neither stock shows signs of sanding, to where a Cartouche could have been removed.

Question is,
Were all M2 stocks stamped with an Ordnance Crossed Cannons stamp?
Were Winchester M2 stocks known to have a flatter bottom?

Charlie, the slingwell stamp is a M, type4 stock. The type4 stocks have the lower profile "pot belly" than the type5 stocks.

After looking closer at the "W" stamped in the slingwell...I could see it was actually a Serifed "M". Other than having a couple of very nice SA M2 stocks kicking around here, I really don't have any experience with them. The book by Riesch threw me off where he states "The type IV stock was identical to the type III stock on the exterior," but then adds that the cut outs for the M2 parts is the sure give away. I did find where the "M" and Flaming bomb stamped in the slingwell would make it a WWII Re-placement stock.

This picture will show that you can clearly see that a Type III and Type IV have quite a difference, when looking at the outside.
The top one is a Winchester Type III, that has been converted to accept M2 parts. The bottom one is the "M" and Bomb stamped in the slingwell Type IV.



This picture shows the "M" stamped Type IV on top and a Type V "HI" on the bottom,



Questions now are,
Any idea who made the "M" stamped stock?
Possible it was made by Marlin?
The HI type V, wouldn't it have had a CC?

Type IV stocks don't have any "pot belly". They are just like the type III stocks with a longer barrel channel.

Without getting into oiler slot shapes, Hi-wood vs Lo-wood and the difference in the overall style of different makers shapes/milling styles.
We have 2 versions of the Type III stock.....Right?
The short......then long channel.
Both with no cut out for the M2 parts.
Then either version could be found converted/milled out for the M2 parts.
The Type IV stock would have been manufactured WITH the cut out for the M2 parts.....Correct?
If I'm on track...while looking at this picture, I can see a difference in the outsides of these 2 stocks.

The "M" is on top.......HI on the bottom.
Is the "M" stamped stock a type IV....per Riesch or a type V?
Any idea who the maker was?
