    M82

    Hi Gil
I wonder if you can assist?
I have just been offered a M82 serial number S-00471 mounted with a pecar scope.
Do the Parker Hale records give any clue to who it was sold to?
    Regards

Entry 642 in the ledger only shows M82 S/N S-00471 in .308 sold to York Arms UKicon on the 29/11/2000.
Just spoke to York Guns and they now don't keep anything that far back!!!!.
There is no mention of a scope whatsoever or its grouping on the records I hold which is unusual.
York Guns seemed to buy a lot of Parker Hales guns around 2000, some were trials rifles and sold as seen, so probably left to them to test and zero.

Sorry can't give you anymore on it, as you probably know 2000 was a bad year, a planned fire of all historic records by SABRE who bought Parker Hale destroyed history as we know it, a cardinal sin IMHO

Sadly not as they went through a sporadic period in 1999/2000 where some M82's were prefixed differently with a different letter which no engineer still living can account for. Strange times, and as I say a real shame more definitive records weren't kept right across the board, but as so much was lost when the full historic records were put on a bonfire...............its tragic.

Added later: found a couple of entries on their own prefix S as 7.62 barrelled dated 7.8.1990 if any use.
Most M82's are entered as R prefixed and then there are some entered 1200TX entries with R & P prefixs and shown as coming in from Canadaicon. I'll be speaking to Bill Smallwood later I will se if he can put any light on it for you.

Gil thank you for that information.
The seller wants £700 with the Pecar scope or £500 without.

One has to remember that all of the Santa Barbra actions were prefixed by C/P/R/S and all arrived at PH works in Birmingham. It was there that the SPAIN was ground out on the Tang. If you take the stock off you will clearly see this grinding on the opposite side to the bolt.
Fascinating times even the C3's had the same treatment on the Canadianicon refurbishment contract, but one consistant thing was they were all .308's.
Its a good price if the bore is sound.
Personally, I would speak to Richard Stork at Devizes guns on 01380 727282, I know he has a few PECAR scopes in, and unless we can prove provinance of the scope to your M82 rifle it matters not and I know his will be a fraction of that cost certainly between £150-£200.................only a phonecall away. Let me know how you get on

Later: Just found a link on his site to a PECAR scope with good optics: Scopes, Mounts and Rings
